Custom Tree House Builder Site Selection Spotlight: Size Matters!

If you’re wondering if you have a great place for us to build a beautiful, hand-crafted treehouse on your land or potential property, start with your measuring tape.

A treehouse foundation can easily weigh 10,000 pounds. That’s five tons of weight for the base deck alone. Strong, sizable, healthy trees are key to successfully building a safe and lasting tree retreat suspended ten, fifteen, or twenty feet or more above ground.

Take a trek around the property and locate a set of trees you believe are good candidates considering their type, health and proximity to your home (more on these points, including tree's configuration with each other, in upcoming posts). Measure the circumference, or girth, of each tree at about chest-height. If they are six feet or larger around, those trees are possible candidates to safely support a structure. For you math enthusiasts, divide that measurement by pi (3.14), and that means your trees each need to be about two feet in diameter.

Keep a lookout in the coming weeks for more tips on site selection. Happy measuring, and feel free to call us with any questions!
